Nuit Blanche North Papier Mache Sculpture
As a special commission for Nuit Blanche North in Huntsville, Ontario I had the pleasure of collaborating with multi- media artist Patricia Astley to create a large scale papier mache interactive sculpture. The sculpture was 10 feet tall and called "Under The Cloak". Mother Nature forms the outside of the sculpture with a huge cloak in which visitors were able to walk into. Once inside the viewers could discover what she is protecting, the threatened creatures of the Earth. The focus for our installation was Canadian wildlife that is threatened or endangered including a polar bear, big horned sheep, Canadian lynx, a wolverine, sea otter, swift fox, badger, spiny soft shell turtle, whooping crane among others. These creatures are all made of papier mache (recycled paper) and spiral around a pole. The whole piece was lit up with lights for the evening and was enhanced by music with an environmental theme.
For Nuit Blanche 2013 we created another installation called "The Roots and Wings of Our Imagination". A Mysterious Owl carrying orphaned baby animals came in for a landing amonst papier mache trees and forest creatures. This was also used for The NorthWords Children's Literary Festival. The Owl will be displayed at The Summit Centre in Huntsville for the Fall of 2013.
Taking the art to a different level, I combined my love of sculpture, music and theatre to create a Musical Marionette Puppet Show for Nuit Blanche 2014 along with my creative family.
